Asus is a well-known brand in the gaming market. From PC components to peripherals. Today, Asus just sent us their latest TUF Gaming H5 Gaming Headset for review, Lets take a look if this headset might be a solid option for an affordable gaming headset.
UNBOXING AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS
UNBOXING AND ACCESSORIES
The Asus TUF Gaming H5 is packaged on a greyish blue box where the image of the headset and its 3.5mm to USB dongle and the top left area is where the Asus branding along with the reflective PS4 Compatible sticker. While at the back is where the information and the compatibility of the headset and an image of it.
Items included in the box aside from the headset are the detachable microphone, the USB dongle, a 3.5mm extension cable, and some documentation.
DESIGN
The H5 is has gone subtle on their design here. No fancy RGBs, no chrome accents. It is somewhat reminiscent of the ROG Fusion 700 but simpler in design. The earcups are designed as same as the ROG Fusion 700 and they went simpler by just adding some yellow accents on each earcup and used pleather pads which has soft memory foam. Both earcups have the TUF Logo. The headband has this mesh fabric and the headset features pivoting earcups. The headband can be adjusted to different levels to fit bigger heads. The headset itself has a non-removable cable.
BUILD QUALITY
The materials used are mostly plastic and a steel black frame to make the headset robust. I am disappointed in the other aspects of the headset, the earcups are very flimsy. The mesh on the headband needs more padding. Looking at the overall build, I feel it is very fragile and need better materials next time.
USER EXPERIENCE AND CONCLUSION
AUDIO/SOUND

The sound quality is decent in my opinion. Bass is punchy and good here while mids are okay and lacks energy and lastly, the treble is in the sweet spot where it is not sibilant.
Gaming wise, this headset delivers very well. Bass is a bit heavy sometimes but overall it is quite enjoyable. I had no problems with playing FPS titles (like Apex Legends and R6) as well. I was able to locate my enemies easily and able to react quickly avoid flanks and ambushes. I mostly used stereo and using 7.1 changes the overall sound on what you get on the headset.
COMFORT
The H5 might be one of the most comfortable headsets in the
MICROPHONE
Microphone quality is decent. Voice is not nasally and has good clarity to it, but the mic picks up a lot of audio in the background.
SOFTWARE
The H5 also works with the ROG Armoury software where you can fine-tune the headset to your liking.
CONCLUSION
The TUF H5 Gaming Headset is a good headset. It offers good sound quality and can be tuned more with the help of the ROG Armoury software. Comfort is also one of its strong points with an over-ear design and soft memory pleather pads. While the headset has its good points, it has also its bad points. Build quality feels cheap compared to other offerings in the market and a removable cable would be a good addition.
Pros
- Audio Quality is good
- Compatibility with other devices like PS4
- Comfort
Cons
- Mediocre build quality
- Non-detachable cable
- The headband needs more padding
The Asus TUF H5 is a good headset with the focus on comfort and sound quality. But with a competitive market, There are other solid options but picking up the H5 isn’t a bad choice.
